About
Established in 1994, HomePlates Worldwide LLC began designing and manufacturing decorative light switchplate covers for the US market. The line began with approximately 25 images, and The HomePlates Collection has grown to over 200 images, both licensed and original.
As the line expanded, so did the sales opportunities: HomePlates are sold as gifts and home decorating accessories, promotions and premiums, fundraising items, and can be found in catalogues, museum gift shops, football stadiums and sporting venues, children’s specialty shops, interior designers, lighting chains, wallpaper stores, independent gift shops, and major department stores.
In 2004, HomePlates introduced its unique line of switch covers to the United Kingdom. Barbara Hobart, Owner/Designer of HomePlates thought it was about time the UK had more than those plain, white, boring switches. And so, she invented a cover which fits perfectly over ALL brands of single UK single switches... with no rewiring required. HomePlates has been well received by the UK market and has received stunning reviews in the press.
In 2008, Ms. Hobart thought Australian’s should also not be limited by the lack of choice available in their marketplace, and created an alternative to the plain white boring switch. “Moving into the Australian home improvement and home decorating market represents an exciting time for us. There are many similarites between US and Australian home owner as home decorating is all the rage. Therefore, this is a very natural progression for HomePlates – and a great DIY opportunity for Australians.” Because of the unique design and fit on all brands of Australian covers, HomePlates holds an Innovation Patent on its switch cover.
HomePlates has been featured in national magazines, such as Cat Fancy, Women’s Day, Ladies Home Journal, Better Homes & Gardens, and numerous newspapers throughout the US. In the UK, HomePlates has been featured by “Conde Nast’s “World of Interiors” and Grand Design, to name a few. As well, Barbara Hobart appeared as a guest on Ideal World’s Home Shopping Channel and HomePlates have been featured on a variety of home improvement decorating shows.
